Literacy Volunteers of East Bay
an Affiliate of ProLiteracy America
Literacy Volunteers of East Bay consists of roughly 80 volunteers, a 8-member Board of Directors and
one administrative director. We serve approximately 80 learners each year through our well-trained
tutors and group class leaders.
Most students are tutored individually in public spaces (such as their local library). We also provide
group classes to local businesses, churches or other organizations who have a group that needs
services. Tutors must complete a 15-hour training program and proceed with support from our literacy
specialist.
We provide services and/or referrals to any adult learner (over 18 years of age) who is willing to travel to
our program area of Bristol, Warren, Barrington and East Providence.
Literacy Volunteers of East Bay is supported by funds from the US Department of Education, money
generated from an annual campaign and generous donations from local citizens and business.
The development of these web pages has been supported by Eastern LINCS under the auspices of the
New England Literacy Resource Center, www.nelrc.org. The Literacy Information and Communication
System (LINCS) is a cooperative electronic network of the national, regional, state, local partners created
and funded by the National Institute for Literacy, http://www.nifl.gov/lincs
