Our Next Tutor Training Will Be Held in Late Spring in Warren.
Our next tutor training will take place at Literacy Volunteers of East Bay, 17 Croade St., Warren, RI. We are located just
behind the George Hail Library.
Sessions are scheduled with the following arrangement:
Week 1, Weekday Evening, 6:30-9:00 pm
Session 1, Tutor Responsibilities, Basic Literacy, Adult Learning
Week 2, Weekday Evening, 6:30-9:00 PM
Session 2, Beginning to Read
Week 2, Saturday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (Brown Bag Lunch)
Session 3, Reading Comprehension
Session 4, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Week 3, 6:30-9:00 PM
Session 5, The Writing Process
Week 4, 6:30-9:00
Session 6, Goal Setting, Lesson Planning, Student Assignments
Weeks 5-10 Tutor Practicum

About our Trainer
Dr. Jean Marrapodi is a Literacy Volunteers master trainer and the Literacy Specialist at LVEB. As a certified tutor
trainer for ProLiteracy at the national level, she also trains other LV tutor trainers in Rhode Island. Jean obtained her
PhD in Adult Education at Capella University, where she focused on Adult Literacy. She is a Certified Professional in
Learning and Performance (CPLP), the highest credential offered by the American Society for Training and
Development. She is one of the founders and the Executive Director of the PAG Learning Center, a literacy program for
children and adults, and she tutors a group of Liberian refugees who came to the United States with no literacy skills at
all. She lives in Providence with her husband and two cats, Faith and Charity. The Marrapodis have two grown children
and four grandchildren.
