LVEB Tutor Trainings
We move the locations of our tutor trainings around between East Providence, Bristol and Newport Counties.
Sessions are generally scheduled with the following arrangement:
Session 1, Week Day, 6:30-9 pm
Tutor Responsibilities, Basic Literacy, Adult Learning
Session 2, Week Day, 6:30-9pm
Beginning to Read and Reading Comprehension
Session 4, Saturday, 9am-3pm
Reading Comprehension continued and The Writing Process
Session 3, Week Day, 6:30-9 pm
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Session 5, Week Day, 6:30-9pm
Goal Setting; Lesson Planning; Student Assignments

About our Trainer
Dr. Jean Marrapodi is a Literacy Volunteers master trainer. As a certified tutor trainer for ProLiteracy at the
national level, she also trains other LV tutor trainers in Rhode Island. Jean obtained her PhD in Adult Education at
Capella University, where she focused on Adult Literacy. She is a Certified Professional in Learning and
Performance (CPLP), the highest credential offered by the American Society for Training and Development. She is
one of the founders and the Executive Director of the PAG Learning Center, a literacy program for children and
adults, and she tutors a group of Liberian refugees who came to the United States with no literacy skills at all. She
lives in Providence with her husband and two cats, Faith and Charity. The Marrapodis have two grown children and
four grandchildren.
